Tomatoes are low in calories, with a rich content of bioactive substances, very beneficial for the immune system, heart and circulation. There is evidence that their consumption reduces the risk of diseases like prostate cancer and blindness, due to carotenoids they contain.

One hundred grams of fresh tomatoes contain:

* 0.5 grams fiber
* 13 ml. calcium
* 27 ml. Phosphorus
* 0.5 ml. iron
* 900 U. I. Vitamin A
* It also contains significant amounts of B vitamins, 23 ml. vitamin C, vitamin E and only 22 calories. It is also rich in minerals: 3 ml. sodium, 244 ml. potassium and 14 ml. magnesium.

Lycopene is a carotenoid and antioxidant-power and also to neutralize free radicals and is the substance that gives tomatoes their red color. Recent studies have shown that Lycopene, a part of its properties as an antioxidant, also has the ability to promote a healthy cardiovascular system and prostate, in turn helping to regulate cholesterol levels and all functions of the immune system. The lycopene is deposited in the testicles, ovaries, intestines, stomach, kidneys, liver, prostate, pancreas and skin, serving several functions.

High levels of Lycopene in the body promote health because our body does not produce enough of this beneficial substance, it is important to supplement with dietary supplements containing the substance, and of course we should eat tomatoes as often as possible.
