Data from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reveal that more than 90 percent of diabetics are obese.

Doctors around the world warn that the overweight and obesity have become a silent epidemic that not only grows but generates diabetes mellitus, among other chronic diseases.

In 2030 the diabetes will be the second cause of death in Latin America, while the Aids occupy the fourth place. The disease doubled its impact. 5 Per cent of the deaths now will cause the 10 per cent.

According to the forecasts of the International Diabetes Federation, the world is 190 million diabetics, and for the year 2025 the figure will come to the 333 million. In Mexico is estimated that at present more than 6.5 million people with the disease, but if the current trend continues, within 30 years will be more than 11.5 million.

The diabetes mellitus is a group of characterized by rising levels of blood glucose (hyperglycemia), due to defects of the secretion of insulin resistance to the hormone or by both processes. In addition to the factors involved in its genesis, also known factors in the style of life that predisposes the disease, such as: lack of exercise and diet rich in fat and sugar, which together lead to obesity.

The damage it causes the disease are many and of grave consequences if it is not adequately monitor. Much of the negative effects in the long term of this condition are of vascular type, as it accelerates the formation of the plate atherosclerosis in blood vessels, and therefore the risk of heart disease. They know that about 80 percent of patients with diabetes die myocardial infarction and vascular disease brain.

Diabetes is the first cause of blindness (due to damaged one of the most important parts of the eye, the retina) inadequacy end stage renal and pain and/or loss of sensation and amputations of lower extremities.

Obesity represents several risks to health, but without a doubt that none of the complications that brings the obesity is compared with the risk of death that this disease implies. Risk increases or decreases as the place to gain the fat.

A new British study found that the accumulation of fat in the waist doubles the risk of premature death. The novelty is that this risk also increases in those people who are not considered obese.

The study involved more than 350 thousand people from nine European countries. One of the conclusions reached is that the BMI (body mass index), which is the extent to which determines whether a person is obese or not, it is not the correct parameter.

Measure waist is better to control the IMC to determine the risk of death of a person. That is, many times doctors may be lost data vital because they are looking indicators wrong.

Every inch that joins the waistline increases the chances of dying (before time) of the people. It is considered that the men have accumulated more fat than due when your waist exceeds 120 centimeters, and in the women when more than 90. While a small waist is considered to be in the 82 centimeters and in the 66 centimeters respectively.

The investigation published “New England journal of Medicine” revealed that even among people with a similar BMI, which waists larger had duplicated the risk of dying prematurely in relation to those whose accumulation of abdominal fat is not considered excessive.

What surprised the British scientists was the strong relationship between the mortality and the size of the waist; and its impact on the health of people and premature deaths. The study showed how the fact accumulates much abdominal fat puts your health at risk, including those whose BMI is considered normal.

What we recommended would be to change the criterion, that is no longer the IMC the measure to be used to determine the obesity, but that is the extent of the waist.

Another problem is that many times people do not know well what the zone of the waist, then, so you can medirte waist without errors you must measure yourself to four centimeters above the navel.

Currently one of every three children Americans is obese or overweight. While they are data of a country in particular, is a reality that childhood obesity is increasingly common in any part of the globe.

It as so many other situations could be avoided with a bit of information, because few people who know that obesity if it can prevent. In fact it is much easier to prevent treat it.

The risk of a child to become obese begins even before birth, establishing some parameters that are going to repeat during childhood and would likely lead to overweight.

Almost half of American women who are living a pregnancy are overweight or obese, this increases the chances of your baby is born or very small or large, which has influence in the development of obesity of the child.

On the other hand the amount of weight to the mother earns during the pregnancy influences in the weight to the child will have later.

According to a study of the University of Pennsylvania, the chances of being overweight at the age of 7 years were a 48 percent higher in those children of mothers who had won more kilos of those recommended during her pregnancy.

In other words, the weight of the mother, before and during pregnancy, has direct influence on the weight that is going to have the child during its life.

A good advice is to seize the early years of the baby and be attentive to the amount of weight that wins the child each year, and see if it matches the weight of your son with the figures recommended. This is a way to prevent the child later is an adult obese.

During the early years of life and during pregnancy, children and mothers visit the doctor with great regularity, so that it is an excellent opportunity for the study and control the weight of your son.

New research has shed light on the issue of obesity. A recent study run counter to the biological clock facilitate the emergence of this disease showed that those who eat after dinner are more likely to gain weight.

The biological clock is telling us when to sleep and when awake. We also mark the mealtime. It seems that those who eat after dinner are more likely to gain weight. Such is the case of those with night eating syndrome (when they eat more than half of daily calories after dinner) or those working at night.

This study was conducted by Northwestern University (Illinois, USA) and published in “Obesity”. According to research eating our way out of sync clock facilitates the apparition of obesity.

A good solution to avoid gaining weight is to modify the timing of meals. According to the researchers, “this may be the beginning of the development of new strategies to combat obesity.” Beyond this, experts point out that this is not sufficient to prevent disease. Also, avoid excess calories, exercise and sleep the hours needed.
